Houston man Jose William Vega charged with posing as attorney to cheat immigrants
After posing as an immigration attorney to allegedly swindle thousands from potential clients without actually helping them, a Houston man is now facing felony criminal charges.
Jose William Vega, 52, was arrested this week and charged with falsely holding himself out as an attorney, the Harris County District Attorney's Office announced Friday.
It's the second time this year he has been charged with the same crime. Vega was also charged in February, and has a history of discipline and misconduct dating back at least several years, records show.
His attorney could not immediately be reached for comment.
Local attorney loses license; clients lose money, relatives to deportation
HOUSTON (FOX 26) - Maria Arroyo says she lost more than money to ex-attorney Jose Vega. She blames him for her husband being deported.
“He’s a scum bag,” Arroyo said.
Arroyo is not the only one who feels that way about Jose Vega. According to court documents, 36 of his clients filed complaints against him with the State Bar of Texas.
