Alabama Bar Association Refuses Former Pickens County Circuit Judge Ira “Benny” Colvin Reinstatement

Former Pickens County Circuit Judge, Ira “Benny” Colvin, has been denied reinstatement of his law license by the Alabama State Bar. Colvin, who was convicted of drug-related charges in 2007 in both Mississippi and Alabama, was removed from office and disbarred from the practice of law after his arrest and eventual conviction.

“As Bar president, I was contacted by the Alabama State Bar regarding whether or not the Pickens County Bar Association supported the reinstatement of Mr. Colvin’s law license,” stated Assistant District Attorney Andy Hamlin. “Members of the Bar were contacted individually and collectively voted not to support Mr. Colvin in this endeavor.”
